24H PROJECT
Gleis 70, Zurich, 4–5 September 2010
Part I · 15:00 –21:23
For 24H PROJECT, I set up a portrait station in a corridor at Gleis 70 in Zurich during the building’s 10th anniversary weekend. From 3 p.m. on 4 September 2010 until 3 p.m. the following day, I remained at the set continuously, photographing everyone who stepped in front of the camera.
Over the course of the 24 hours, the character of the portraits gradually changed. Families, children and visitors gave way to people arriving from the nearby night party; towards morning, exhaustion, intoxication and the traces of the night became increasingly visible. By late morning, the rhythm shifted again as a new daytime audience arrived.
The project consists of all 341 photographs made during those 24 hours. Nothing was edited out. Presented in chronological order, the complete sequence becomes a record of time passing — of changing bodies, moods and social atmospheres, and of a place moving through a full day and night.
The complete sequence is presented chronologically in two parts.
