Ten former couples were invited to stand together once more. Photographed on medium-format film in the same setting, with the same framing, they were given no instructions on how to position themselves. I simply asked them to stand together and think back to their relationship. The dates marking the beginning and end of each relationship form part of each portrait.

The series explores what remains after love has ended. Distance, familiarity, tenderness and discomfort surface in different ways — sometimes even a surprising physical closeness. Can two people who once shared their lives ever make a complete break, or does something of that intimacy remain? The work grew out of a personal preoccupation with separation and with the traces relationships leave behind.
